Homeschool Yoga Series

  • Fusion Yoga 6382 West Jefferson Boulevard Fort Wayne, IN, 46804 United States (map)

Yoga is a non-competitive physical activity that develops essential life skills while cultivating health and fitness. The practice of yoga develops mental and physical strength, flexibility, stability, and control through age appropriate individual adaptations. Students of yoga are also given tools and techniques for deeper self-awareness and self regulation. Yoga class is a safe environment for students to learn and practice yoga tools that will help them navigate their daily lives. Through honest communication and problem solving yoga gives students the opportunity to work in positive social settings for team building and self-confidence.

Each 10 week course is aligned with the National Standards for Physical Education and National Standards for Health (SHAPE 2014, Indiana Academic Standards 2017). Classes are specifically designed within each series to build on skills and knowledge from previous weeks to culminate in a deeper understanding of anatomy, physiology, brain development, and social/emotional learning (SEL). Themes and concepts taught will be based in national education standards, western anatomy, and physiology often through the stories and myths associated with asana to deepen integration and self-empowerment*.

Course work may include a worksheet or activity to be practiced at home to continue to build on concepts taught during class for personal benefit. Each student will receive a certificate verifying the attendance and overview of concepts learned for transcript purposes.

*Yoga is rooted in the historical and mythological stories of ancient India as taught through the Vedic and Upanishad texts; these texts are deeply spiritual but are not religious. This rich history celebrates the whole child – physical, mental, emotional, energetic, and spiritual – and will be recognized as part of the structure of each class.
