Mary Newell

200 E-RYT, YACEP, ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist, EnhanceFitness Certified, Brains and Balance Over 60 Certification, Barre Above Certified

Fitness training became a part of Mary's life in 1994 and her love for yoga soon followed.  Early on it was all about the physical movement. Mary and her husband, Steve, ran many half-marathons and completed the Chicago Marathon. After their first daughter was born in 1996, Mary was drawn to the alignment and meditative state yoga created.  She continued to run, teach fitness classes, personal train, and practice yoga throughout her next two pregnancies.

Once her three daughters were in school, she went back to school herself, as an adjunct professor of exercise physiology.

Teaching yoga and fitness to all ages and abilities is her passion, but there is a special place in her heart for the aging population. Fascinated with the wisdom spoken through the aging body and mind, she developed a program called “Connect.” Connect incorporates gentle yoga, strength training, cardiovascular exercises, balance, and cognitive activities.

Yoga training for Mary began in 1996 and continues today. She has logged over 3,500 teaching hours and completed over 600 hours of advanced trainings and workshops.
